Known for his astute cricketing brain, MS Dhoni has gone on to become one of the modern-day legends of world cricket. Young players have been flourishing under his captaincy over the years and his Chennai Super Kings teammates have had the privilege of watching Dhoni go about his business from close quarters.
Also, Dhoni has never shied away from sharing his knowledge and experience with the younger generation of cricket. Be it spending time with the Ranchi cricket team during limited-overs tournaments or guiding young spinners in the India cricket team, Dhoni's contribution to cricket and Team India has been a major highlight of his cricketing career.
In Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019, Dhoni has been spotted on a number of occasions, chatting with young cricketers from the opposition during post-match routines.
When asked to shed light on the post-match conversations he has been having with youngsters, Dhoni said it's been all about the importance of focussing more on the game than anything else.
"Youngsters are very naughty. We have to keep reminding them as to what they should and shouldn't be doing on a cricket ground," Dhoni said during a Chennai Super Kings promotional event in Jaipur.
Dhoni added: "Take Deepak Chahar for instance, half the matches, he's busy staring at the stands. Even in Chennai where three stands are empty, he is looking behind while fielding along the boundary. I am like 'what are looking at there. Look at your captain or follow the field changes'. We have to keep telling them that this is the time they should concentrate more on cricket and less on outside things."
Dhoni kicked up a storm in Jaipur when he stormed onto the pitch and confronted on-field umpires over a no-ball call during Chennai Super Kings' win over Rajasthan Royals on Thursday. Nonetheless, Dhoni played a match-winning knock after CSK were jolted early in their chase of 151 on a two-paced wicket at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Eventually, it was Dhoni's 100th win as captain in the IPL -- the first-ever player to achieve the landmark.
CSK have been in fine form in their title defence, having won six of their seven matches in IPL 2019. Dhoni's men will face a stiff test when they take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.
