Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019's encounter for Tuesday, April 9 sees defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) up against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the sole encounter of the day at M.A.Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai (Chepauk). It is expected to be a mouth-watering clash between MS Dhoni's experienced side versus Dinesh Karthik's power-hitters, as both franchises enjoy a promising start to the new campaign.
Match No. 23: CSK vs KKR -
At present, only a minor difference in net run-rate separates table-toppers KKR and second-ranked CSK. Both sides have adjusted to the different surfaces thrown at them and responded to pressure situations relying on their regular match winners.
CSK commenced their campaign with a hat-trick of wins, versus Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Rajasthan Royals (RR), before they lost the plot versus arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI). However, they went past Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) who seemed in control of the chase, of 161, but eventually succumbed to a 22-run defeat at Chepauk.
CSK are expected to go ahead with the same XI who trounced KXIP. The Men in Yellow's spinners have choked opposition batters, if not removed them from the middle instantly, and will be wary of the power-hitters in KKR camp; especially in tournament's biggest performer so far -- Andre Russell.
On the other hand, KKR will draw inspiration from the fact that they ran defending champions really close in the last faceoff at Chepauk in 2018 edition. Chasing 203, CSK went past two-time champions KKR in thelast overr. As a result, they will come hard once again versus the home side. KKR have enough firepower and also rely on 'spin to win' ploy like their opponents.
While KXIP tested CSK, KKR might just go past them in their fortress at Chepauk. Will Dhoni and his boys have the answers to stop a rampant Russell?
